The Obelisks in Italy

     The majority of the Egyptian obelisks, because of it's Roman past, are now in Italy.  There are as many standing Egyptian obelisks in Italy as there are in Egypt and all the rest of the world combined.  Most are located in Rome.

Boboli Gardens Obelisk
          The Boboli Gardens Obelisk is one of a pair. The companion is located in the Viale delle Terme di Diocleziano in Rome.  It is 16 feet tall.
 


The Flaminian Obelisk
          Located in Piazza del Popolo in Rome, this obelisk was originally erected in the Sun Temple at Heliopolis, Egypt.  It is 75 feet tall and weighs 263 tons, or 526,000 pounds.

 


The Lateran Obelisk
          
The Lateran Obelisk is Located at Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano, Rome. It is the tallest standing ancient obelisk it the world. It's original height was 118 feet, it  weighs 455 tons, or 910,000 pounds, and was cut from red granite.
 


Monte Pincio Obelisk
          The Monte Pincio Obelisk is located in Pincio Hill's Gardens on Monte Pincio, Rome.  It is 30 feet tall.

 


Seti I Obelisk
          This obelisk is located at Piazza del Popolo in Rome.  It is 75 feet tall and weighs 263 tons, or 526,000 pounds.
 


Piazza del Quirinale Obelisk
          This obelisk is one of a pair, the companion is in Piazza dell'Esquilino.  It is 48 feet tall.

 


Obelisk of Urbino
          Located at the Piazza del Rinascimento in Urbino and means "from the sky." The red granite obelisk is attributed to the Pharaoh Apries, the 4th King of the 26th Dynasty.
 


The Minerva Obelisk
          This red granite obelisk is located at Piazza della Minerva in Rome. It is 18 feet tall.
